On Saturday, March 17, the CTA Autónoma (CTA-A) carried out its Ordinary and Extraordinary National Congress at the Villa Marista complex in the city of Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires.
Under the motto “UNITY is the way”, and with the presence of the supervisor designated by the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security of the Nation, Jorge Errea, Regional Delegation of Mar del Plata, Leg. No. 24,206, there were more than 350 national congressmen and women in representation of all the provinces that voted for each resolution. There was also an important international delegation from different trade unions of the world and a closing ceremony with more than 500 comrades present. It was a day of debate in which the path of the CTA Autónoma was ratified.
Throughout the entire event, there were two main moments: the Ordinary National Congress and the Extraordinary National Congress.
During the first one, the topics discussed were mostly about administrative issues as well as what has to do with the upcoming elections. Following the meeting’s agenda, the National Electoral Board was elected, under the terms of Article 31 of the Estatuto Social. The candidates were unanimously approved by attending members and will perform in the next elections.
As for the Extraordinary Congress, it brought hope to the path of the CTA-A. It started with a video that reviewed the most important actions carried out in recent years throughout the country and commemorated valuable and essential comrades of the Union such as Carlos Chile, Normando “Piojo” Ocampo and Fabiana Villafañe.
After that, Cristina Faciaben, Secretary of International Relations of the Labor Commissions of Spain, and Rosario Rodríguez Remon, of the Workers’ Central Union of Cuba, extended their greetings to the Congress on behalf of the attending international delegation and highlighted the importance of unity and without which there is no future.
The General Secretary of CTA-A, Pablo Micheli, analyzed in detail the country’s social and economic situation, stressing the role of the labor movement as a priority and taking into account the neoliberal measures taken by the current Argentine government.
As one of the most significant and democratic resolutions, the Congress approved a gender quota of 50% to come into effect as of next elections, an initiative that makes the CTA-A the first Argentine trade union organization to adapt its internal regulations in the search of gender parity.
